Fanfic that is "more than" canon may go down the crack route, blithely inserting whatever trope takes the writer's fancy, just for the fun of it, or it may offer a resistant reading, interpreting the text in a way that the author never intended. Sayers' Bunter, for instance, is never presented as being in any way dissatisfied with his lot in life. Although we are given hints that a rather different man lurks beneath the Jeeves-like mask of the perfect servant, it is never suggested that this difference extends to criticism of the class system or any of the constraints it imposes on him (on the contrary, when Peter offers him a raise, Bunter declines). executrix shows us Bunter from the inside, a Bunter with a real and complex inner life, who is far from happy with his lot, but sees no way out. She does it through the medium of what is possibly the rarest of all pairings in this fandom, Bunter and the Viscount St George, and makes their relationship utterly convincing. The fic is witty, intelligent and ultimately heart-breaking, it does justice to all the characters, and it's nothing like anything Sayers ever wrote. Even if you don't like slash, I strongly recommend that you read this.

По ЖЖ бродит забава: нажмите, мол, вон сюда и немедля получите хокку по вашему ЖЖ. А захотите - догоните и ещё получите.

Конечно, никакое оно не хокку - потому что я зануда потому что настоящее хокку должно выполнять исправно два требования:

а) Семнадцать слогов на три строчки: пять, семь, пять.
б) Наличие слова (так называемого "кигó"), указывающего на время года.
[Есть и третье требование - кирэ-дзи, или режущее слово (корень тот же, что и в слове хара-кири) - но оно уж очень завязано на японской грамматике, и мы его покамест опустим.]

В своё время я сочинил мнемоническое хокку, обучающее первому требованию при соблюдении второго. Я посвящаю его теперь памяти Вячеслава Тихонова.

Штирлиц знал размер:
пять, семь и ещё раз пять.
Мгновенья весны.

Заодно я придумал и мнемоническое хокку, обучающее второму требованию при соблюдении первого.

В хокку быть должно
осенью, зимой, весной
и летом кигó.

На самом деле киго должно быть только одно, иначе получится блюдо "селёдка с вареньем". Весну, например, может обозначать упоминание вишни (пресловутая сакура), соловья, лягушек или дня рождения Будды. Зиму - сухие листья, снег, суп из ядовитой рыбы фугу, Новый Год.

Вот такие особые представления о поэзии бытуют в Японии.

Если в хокку нет киго, оно уже не хокку. Его можно попробовать подать в качестве сэнрю - трёхстишия с тем же размером, но с тематикой, не связанной с временами года (чаще всего - о людях и их нравах).

Я хочу сочинить хокку для вас, в прямом эфире. Я ( сейчас попробую... )

Диснеевские художники много рисуют, как ни странно. Работа у них такая :)
Они рисуют будущих персонажей, а ещё несостоявшихся персонажей и несостоявшуюся внешность будущих персонажей. А иногда они просто дурачатся  :)))
Кого-то из тех, кто выложен под катом, вы уже видели. Кто-то при этом сильно изменился. Кто-то создан для портфолио или смеха ради и вы их не увидите больше нигде :)

Надо помочь коту

1. Rebel Without a Cause, 1955. James Dean, Sal Mineo, Natalie Wood, oh hey is that Dennis Hopper?
One of the most iconic "the kids aren't all right" movies ever made. James Dean as Jim Stark is wonderfully nuanced and tortured, playing the role of an insecure new kid trying to prove his masculinity with lifelike ease. His chemistry with Sal Mineo's adorably messed-up John "Plato" Crawford is palpable and real. Natalie Wood as Judy is cute, but it's the boys who steal the show.

2. Back to the Future, 1985. Crispin Glover, Michael J. Fox, Lea Thompson, Judge Doom, the coach from "Freaks and Geeks."
This has gone from a major fandom to a little bit of a guilty pleasure. The portrayal of 1955 in the movie is half the idealized paradise that Reagan-influenced conservatives of the time loved to portray it as, and half an inchoate modernity in which the seeds of the future are present, reflected both in the semiotics and cultural touchstones of the time and the interpersonal dynamics of the characters.

3. Pleasantville, 1998. Tobey Maguire, Reese Witherspoon, William H. Macy, the guy who runs the Purple Rose Theatre up in Chelsea.
As long as we're talking about idealized paradises...The "message" of this movie is a little obvious and safe-edgy, but I still love the fun of watching David and Jennifer run around experimenting with the fantasy world of Pleasantville, and I love Joan Allen as the housewife who learns to realize her sexual desires.

4. Beefcake, 1998. Jack LaLanne, nobody else you've ever heard of but they're pretty much all hot.
A look at the world of gay porn, 1950's style--health and fitness "model" magazines that were thinly-disguised excuses to take pictures of cheerful men clad in little more than posing straps. Told in a half-documentary, half-narrative style, it weaves stills from real beefcake mags and interviews with models and publishers with a cute story that follows an aspiring model through the world of beefcake modeling.

5. Rope, 1948. John Dall, Farley Granger, Jimmy fucking Stewart, several people with names like "Dick" and "Hardwicke." Heh.
Two men strangle an old school friend in a metaphor for homosexuality and then invite all his friends and family over for a party. John Dall is incredibly charismatic and cute as the slightly sociopathic Brandon, Farley Granger is convincingly fragile and on edge as his boyfriend and reluctant accomplice Philip, and Jimmy Stewart is way, way too straight for the role he plays. The movie is shot as one long take, which is pretty impressive, and it's suspenseful and has some fantastic visuals--it being a Hitchcock film.

6. Lolita, 1962. James Mason, Shelley Winters, Peter Sellers, Sue Lyon.
Cultured professor falls in love with adolescent girl, writes about it, tragedy ensues. The movie can't ever quite capture the complex and unreliable narrative of the novel, but it's still great--James Mason is unexpectedly sexy as an aging pedophile, and Peter Sellers is pathetically sleazy as Clare Quilty. The 1997 version with Jeremy Irons and Dominique Swain is also very good, and I like that film's version of the title character better--Kubrick aged her up and made her genuinely seductive for the 1962 film, whereas Swain's Lolita is more authentically childish and troubled.

7. The Best Years of Our Lives, 1946. Myrna Loy, Fredric March, Dana Andrews, Teresa Wright, Hoagy Carmichael, Harold Russell.
A look at the interweaving lives of three WWII veterans and their families as they struggle to integrate themselves back into civilian society. Takes a realistic look at the challenges faced by veterans and their families, and weaves genuinely gripping drama into the plot. I also love the fact that Homer Parrish, the veteran who'd lost his hands, was actually played by a veteran who'd lost his hands.

8. The Day the Earth Stood Still, 1951. Michael Rennie, Patricia Neal, Sam Jaffe, some kid, a giant robot.
A classic of sci-fi, and one of the first "message" movies about nuclear disarmament that involved spaceships, robots, or aliens in some way. Michael Rennie is wonderfully alien as Klaatu, and the whole film really captures the unique tenseness of a world suddenly in contact with something they've never experienced before. It's only improved with age, showcasing the hypocrisy, destructiveness, and nobility of humans in some moments that are even more striking now, looking back on the past.

9. It Came from Outer Space, 1953. Richard Carlson, Barbara Rush, story by Ray Bradbury.
Aliens invade, people start acting funny, hero and heroine have to figure out what's going on. It's a formula very popular in the 1950s, but the trope is very neatly inverted at the end, thanks to Bradbury's vision for the movie. The acting is good and the special effects might be a step up from the standard of the time, but it's Bradbury's script that I noticed most while watching this--there are ideas and lines that are uniquely Bradbury that lend the movie a slight air of something like magical realism.

10. Teenagers from Outer Space, 1959. David Love a.k.a. Chuck Roberts, Dawn Bender, Bryan Grant, Tom Graeff, King Moody, lobsters.
I don't care how dumb this movie is, I have a great deal of affection for it. I love the lobsters, and the alien boy who learns about Earth from the perky human girl, and the fact that the director cast his boyfriend in the role. It's really an adorable film, and it's actually pretty well-done for a film that was done on a shoestring budget with very little staff.

and one movie I couldn't stand

Revolutionary Road, 2008. Leo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Unsinkable Molly Brown.
An idealistic young couple move to the suburbs, grow to hate their lives and become disappointed in their own shattered dreams, and try to escape but can't. It was engaging, visually striking, and did have a few moments I enjoyed, but overall it was really fucking depressing. Frank was an unsympathetic and charmless asshole for 90% of the movie, and I felt sorry for April but never really connected with her. The only characters I really liked were the poor schlub of a neighbor who was in love with April, and the mentally ill mathematician who comes in around the middle of the movie and is enjoyable but is basically there to be a Magical Insane Person and offer trenchant commentary and advice.

вообще не понимаю тех, кто не читает ivonn - она пишет мало и редко, но посмотрите вот это оглавление - и вы поймете, что надо.

Знаете, что общего у филологессы А. и писателя Ходова? Я вот до сегодняшнего утра тоже понятия не имела, пока сразу три человека не написали в почту буквами, что писатель Ходов творчески позаимствовал стихотворение про автострадные танки для какого-то альтернативно-исторического романа собственного, что характерно, авторства.
Из чего следует, что в скором времени меня ожидает нашествие незнакомых личностей, яростно требующих поставить на автострадные танки копирайт писателя Ходова, как это уже случилось в свое время с приснопамятным "Настрадамсом".
Что, безусловно, огорчительно.

Просили меня как-то рассказать про хаши - японские палочки для еды. Поскольку я и сама подумывала собрать в кучку все, что раскидано по просторам Интернета на эту тему, то вот, наконец, и собрала.
Вряд ли многие из вас найдут тут что-то принципиально новое для себя, но пусть будет. Для полного комплекта.

Чтоб дополнить нарытое в Интернете чем-нибудь более живым, специально смоталась в местный Музей Палочек. И даже таки нашла его, хоть и со второй попытки (на таких задворках, что вообще хрен найдешь!). Потому красивые картинки из Интернета будут разбавлены паршивыми фотками моего исполнения (ну, тяжело снимать в полутемном помещении да еще и через мутное стекло витрины). Художественной ценности никакой, зато познавательно (надеюсь).

Японоживущие, практический вопрос, помогите, пожалуйста.

Задача: у меня есть cash card, банк UFJ.
Мне нужно послать деньги в Россию маме.
У мамы есть счет в Сбербанке.

Вопрос: Как посылать деньги в Россию из Японии в рублях?

В банке моем все тупые - полчаса висят на телефоне и говорят "Ой, извините, мы не знаем, как это сделать".
То есть, натурально говорят, что они не в курсе. Бред какой-то.
Пересылают с одного телефона на другой, и на каждом номере одно и то же - ой, мы не знаем, извините.

Всё, что удалось у них выяснить, это:
1) Перевести они могут только иены и доллары.
2) В иенах за операцию перевода берут 6000 иен, в долларах 3500. Нереальные деньги какие-то!

Мне нужно:
- варианты, как посылать деньги так, чтобы процент за перевод не был сумасшедшим
- пожалуйста, учитывайте, что я совсем чайник, то есть, мне нужны будут пошаговые подробные инструкции

В этой вырисовывающейся тенденции мне нравятся две вещи сразу: новый материальный минимализм (графика сошедшая к типографическому минимуму это хорошо, но хочется чего-то еще, и это как раз то самое правильное бонусное еще — голый натуральный материал); и сам факт что появляется все больше запахов не от бритниспирс и даже не от прады, а от понимающих людей, которые делают запахи для тех, кто не хочет пахнуть опознаваемым ширпотребом.

Первая, деревянная серия — Nasomato; вторая, бетонная — Alexa Lixfeld. Kто первый, как обычно, неважно.

Эта яшма куплена была давно, за свой странный, тревожный, неуловимо драконий рисунок - словно росчерк алой тушью. А тут недавно мне досталась щепоть китайских монеток, тех свмых, на которых изображены драконы, играющие с огненной жемчужиной. Так все и решилось.

Как и предыдущая вещь, по виду, цвету,запаху и настроению очень точно соответствует мужской версии туалетной воды L'eau par Kenzo - в неё мы оба были влюблены всю осень, совсем дождевой запах, чистый и мягкий.
